The W Kuala Lumpur is a luxury hotel located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia's bustling capital city. The hotel is part of the W Hotels chain, which is owned by Marriott International, and offers guests a unique blend of modern design, luxury amenities, and vibrant nightlife.
The hotel features 150 guest rooms and suites, each of which is elegantly designed with contemporary furnishings, high-tech amenities, and floor-to-ceiling windows that provide stunning views of the city skyline. The hotel also offers a range of dining and entertainment options, including several restaurants and bars, a rooftop infinity pool, and a fitness center.
Location One of the standout features of the W Kuala Lumpur is by far its prime location in the city's Golden Triangle, which is home to many of Kuala Lumpur's top attractions, including the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, KL Tower, and the Pavilion shopping mall.
Check-in
The check-in desk is on the 8th floor, with staff on ground level showing you to the lifts. The foyer is funky and modern. Generally giving hip fun vibes. Staff were friendly and helpful at check-in. I arrived at 10am so my room was unavailable. However coming off a 20 hour trip they appreciated that I couldn't wait until normal check-in for my room to be ready. I had booked the 'Cool Corner Room' but they offered an alternative to a 'Spectacular Room' with views to the towers, which was described as being a 'slight downgrade' to what I had booked.
Room
The room is a great size (42sq m) and has a real hip modern style about it. With kingsized bed, walk-in wardrobe, 43’’ TV, a work station, lounge chair and floor to ceiling windows which looked on to the iconic Petronas-Towers. The bathroom was a great size with both a separate shower and large bath tub. Everything was modern clean lines. The lighting had great options for all moods and can be changed accordingly, including the ‘flirty’ which dims lights and turns on dimmed lights under the bed.
Food & Beverage
There are two restaurants and two bars, one being the pool bar. While I didn’t eat in the restaurant, I did order in room service on arrival and it was delicious. I tried room service on other occasions also and all had food cooked to a high standard with both local and western options.
Facilities
Gym
There is a decent sized gym with treadmills, bikes, machine weights and free weights. It’s not the largest of selections but enough to get a decent workout. The only issue with the gym was that the aircon was not working correctly. So while it was cooler than outside, it still was very warm and you could definitely feel the humidity when working out.
Pool
The pool is located on the 12th floor with probably some of the best views of the Petronas towers. It is definitely the biggest selling point of the hotel which has the Wicked Bar poolside. This bar is covered but full exposed to the pool side with DJ’s playing through the evening relaxed house music. The bar is definitely a must if you want to see the infamous light show the towers display each evening.
Spa
There is the Away Spa with a host of massage options. The whole Spa is beautifully lit and has a luxurious feel. However as you would expect with any 5 star hotel, the treatments are on the pricey side and you will find cheaper options in and around the city.
Conclusion
Overall, the W Kuala Lumpur is a chic and stylish choice for travellers looking to experience the best of Kuala Lumpur in a luxurious and modern setting. The cost of the room was approximately $260 per night, and when you consider the location the fact it is a 5 star hotel then it is great value and worth considering if you come to KL.
